Pineapple Express Review

Alright so I don't want to go the first day without at least something review related, today is my day off so I decided last night that I would twist one up and head to the movies with a few buddies. We went to see Pineapple Express; normally I am not excited for modern comedies I think Will Farrell and his boys have helped killed the industry. Anyways, I had seen Knocked Up and Superbad previously and honestly they both sat better with me than I would expect, they both had this comfortable to watch feeling, kinda like watching an episode of Seinfeld. I won't spoil anything, I will just say that Pineapple Express whether it was a masterpiece or not will help to make this new comedy/action/gore genre a little more mainstream. I had seen movies like Shaun of the Dead before and I really enjoyed it, but I found Pineapple Express just a little more relatable. The characters are a little over the top but just so enough that they are slightly believable yet entertaining at the same time. There are defiantly a few scenes that seemed overly silly and foolish but at the same time its scenes like that that make the better scenes better. The flow of the movie was really good; some movies start out awesome and slowly get worst and harder to watch. Pineapple Express was the opposite, I found the first scenes to be the worst and the further into the movie I got I realized it was just getting funnier and more over the top. Some points I will admit though I am not sure if I was laughing at the scene or someone’s gagging laugh. Some people were laughing at absolutely nothing, there was a scene during a car chase when they are air borne and someone let out a blood curdling laugh. Not sure why, but I was feeling good and it defiantly felt like everyone else in the theatre was too. I will say this before I depart, this movie gets pretty violent, but it maintains its comfy feeling even through that. If you liked the other movies i have mentioned earlier than I believe there is a place for you here. I wish I could have gone into more detail about the characters but I don’t really want to spoil anything.

Bottom Line- Its funny, worth the 10$ ticket price, bring your puffing buddies or your significant other and you will no doubt enjoy it. Even non smokers who enjoy the lifestyle or lack of one will get something out of this. I am going to have to think of a clever score system, I am too lazy right now so 1-10 will have to do. Hmm, honestly I would give this film an 8 1/2 out of 10. Comfy score, Comfy movie, nuff said.
