Venom movie, maybe

Venom could be coming to the big screen, this is some wicked news, but I gotta tell it like it is. If you are a Venom fan like me than chances are you weren't a big fan of Spiderman 3, which was in many ways the slaughter of a wicked character and franchise. Spiderman 3 casted Topher Grace as Eddie Brock(the man who becomes Venom). This was such a poor choice for so many reasons, first of all Topher Grace was the guy that played Eric Forman on The 70s Show, nuff said. Secondly, the actor looks nothing like Eddie Brock, at all(it pisses me off that when I google Eddie Brock all I see are pics of Topher). Anyways, here is some potentially wicked news. It is being reported that Venom could be getting his own movie, this has been rumoured for years but finally it seems to be coming a reality. Ign recently reported that screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have spilled the beans on the Venom Project, here is what they had to say-

"Venom is something that we're very fired up to be writing," "We have turned in a draft and are waiting to hear back, so it's early in the process. But it's a thrill to be writing Venom for obvious reasons." "I mean, they had parameters for sure," he explains. "Obviously with a character like Venom there's a ton of stuff to draw from. Then they had specific rules about … the villain and the backstory and stuff like that, so there were certain things they wanted us… certain parameters they gave us. But largely we pitched them something and they liked it but they had changes, and so we worked on the outline for a long time and then we wrote the script. So it's definitely a collaborative [effort] with Marvel and Sony and us. It's very, very collaborative."

I am really hoping that if this movie gets made it starts on a new slate, like Batman Begins did for the Batman series. A Spiderman 3 tie-in would probably make some cash, but would lose the respect of a lot of fans(including myself). Come on boys, make the Venom movie we have all wanted to see for so many years. And for fuck sake, Don't cast Topher Grace as Eddie Brock.
