Green Week 2010

Green Week 2010 is coming up, there are a load of different events ranging from movies and breakfasts to workshops and environmental sex toys, ya you read that right. In the times we live in this is extremely relevant to all people, also none of it costs you a dime, check it out.

The Dalhousie Student Union Sustainability Office is proud to bring you Green Week 2010!

This promises to be a week long event that will be full of fun activities aimed at promoting and fostering a sense of awareness around sustainable issues and practices. We hope that students, faculty and staff of the Dalhousie community will take part in some of the many events being planned DSUSO. We encourage that everyone begin learning about and taking steps towards making our campus and community greener!


(note: all ‘Lunch and Learns’ INCLUDE FREE LUNCH!!!)


Monday September 27th:

- 9:00-11:30 at the SUB grill- Free Local Pancake Breakfast

-10:00-2:00pm Rm. 307- Clothing swap with the Dalhousie Environment Sustainability and Society Student Society

- 11:00-2:00 pm in the green space behind the SUB -Garden Party hosted by CAF

- 12:00- 1:00 pm Rm. 224 Dal SUB – Lunch and Learn: ‘Transition to a life without oil: climate change, rising prices and what to do about it’ with Jen Stotland

- 7:00pm Ondaatje (McCain Building)– Film Screening of “FOOD INC” + Panel discussion and reception presented by the Dalhousie Science Society.

Tuesday September 28th:

-12:00-1:00 pm Rm. 302 Dal SUB- Lunch and Learn: ‘Aquaculture Workshop’ with East Coast Environmental Law (ECELAW)

- 10:00-2:00 pm at the Da Bike Center- Bike Tune-Up Bonanza hosted by the Society for Bicycle Advocacy at Dalhousie.

Wednesday September 29th:

-10:00-2:00 pm McInnis Rm. SUB- Green Jobs Fair

- 2:00-4:00 pm Rm.224 Dal SUB- Green Job Panel Discussion hosted by the Environmental Programmes Student Society

-12:00-1:00 pm Rm.224 Dal SUB- Lunch and Learn: ‘Sustainable Seafood Workshop’ with the Ecology Action Center.

- 7:00 pm at the Dalhousie Women’s Center- Vegan Cooking Class with Angela Emmerson

-7:00 pm Rm.307 Dal SUB- The Future of Food at Dalhousie: Sustainable Sensation or Campus Conundrum??

Thursday September 30th:

-10:00-3:00 pm Dal SUB lobby- Farmer’s Market

-12:00-1:00 pm Rm. 224- Lunch and Learn: ‘Waste Management in HRM’ with Marcel Maessen.

-7:00 pm Ondaatje Auditorium (McCain Building): Key note Address by Sarah Elton author of ‘the locavore’ followed by a reception. Brought to you by DSUSO, the DSU and the College of Sustainability. 

-8:30pm at the Grawood in the Dal SUB- Green Trivia

Friday October 1st:

-12:00-1:00pm Rm.224 Dal SUB- Venus Envy Presents: The Environment, Women’s Health and Alternative Menstrual Care and Sustainable Toys with Mary Burnet & hosted by DALOut.
**Women Only

-9:00 am Dal SUB lobby- Tap water challenge hosted by the SustainDal water committee.

- 8:30 pm at the Grawood in the SUB- TWO HOUR TRAFFIC!!!


- Muggy Middays in the SUB Lobby: Free Fair Trade coffee and tea


Monday September 27th
